The Disabled Workers Co-operative is a registered charity that helps disabled people to help themselves. Their aim is twofold - to raise the independence of disabled people (for those that want it) by enabling them to take an active role in the economy and achieve a greater sense of self-worth and also to raise awareness of the contribution that disabled people can make to society.
For many skilled, disabled people it is not being able to work that is the problem, it is the impracticability of getting to and from work or finding new customers. This can be even more of a problem in rural areas. The project will also increase awareness of the skills, abilities and worth of disabled people.
